Kathmandu: The Advertisement Board has issued a warning to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) for airing advertisements that violated existing laws and regulations during the Nepal Premier League (NPL) broadcasts.

Foreign Broadcast and Gambling Promotion

Complaints revealed that NPL matches held between November 15 and December 6 were broadcast on Star Sports through a foreign company, First Century Media, which included advertisements and gambling promotions — both considered unlawful in Nepal.

Repeated Notices Ignored

According to Devi Pandey Khatri, the board’s spokesperson and chief administrative officer, CAN failed to provide a satisfactory response despite repeated notices. The board warned that if its instructions continue to be ignored, CAN could face a future advertising ban.

Penalties for Illegal Ad Agencies

The board also decided to fine unregistered advertising agencies Rs 10,000 and ban them from operating for three months. During the suspension period, such agencies will not be listed with the board.

Blacklist Notice Issued

Additionally, the board urged all advertisers and media outlets not to conduct business with Brand Digital Logic Pvt Ltd and TCM Sports and Marketing Pvt Ltd, citing their involvement in the unlawful advertising activities.
